Kim Kardashian, a reality star who recently hosted the #KimExposedTaylorParty, and North West, her three-year-old daughter who "loves fashion," were in the audience at Kanye West's "Saint Pablo" show at Madison Square Garden on Monday night. As the pair left their $25 million Airbnb for the concert, photographers were on site to document their latest mommy-and-me moment: matching silver metallic gowns, courtesy of Parisian "design collective" Vetements. (But while Kardashian wore lucite heels, North wore Vans sneakers. A girl after my own heart.)
In 2016, it's become standard protocol for certain celebrity mothers to dress their young children in coordinating couture. (Beyoncé and Blue Ivy do it all the time, so you know it's real.) And in the fashion community, Vetements continues to be A Very Big Deal — so it's A Very Big Deal that Kardashian would be able to finagle not only one Vetements dress for herself, but a second teensy replica.
But! There's an added layer of intrigue here. Remember Taylor Swift's May 2016 Vogue cover shoot, which happened sometime after she made a swipe at West at the Grammys, but before she accused the Kardashian-Wests of "character assassination"? Swift wore that very same Vetements gown in her editorial, which she deemed her "favorite cover [she's] ever gotten to be a part of." Did Kardashian pick this particular Vetements piece — for West's concert, no less — specifically to fling some shade at Swift?
If you have to ask, the answer is probably yes.
