Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than five million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best.
Once again, I have to hand it to chic French makeup artist Violette (no need for a last name, that's how chic and French she is) for creating some of the least-cheesy beauty tutorials I've ever seen. In one such video, she breaks down how to get the quickest, easiest smoky eye imaginable — in a moving Uber, no less.
"It's very easy, it's really just three steps," says Violette. "And fingers are the best tool." (Pro tip: Use a little hand sanitizer first to make sure your hands are clean, because bacteria from an Uber car door + makeup + your eyelids = not an ideal mix.)
Violette's technique hinges on a metallic, chunky shadow crayon, which she scribbles over her lids and then blends out using her fingertip. Sounds simple — and it really is! — but it also looks pretty phenomenal. Watch the full video above to see exactly how she pulls it off.
