VP Marketing

We’re looking for a high achieving senior marketer with strong experience in developing a fashion brand. This role will be pivotal in our US expansion in 2016 and beyond, tackling a wide breadth of challenges for our fast growing start-up. With a recent Series B funding round, we’re aiming to develop our unique brand and promote the company cleverly and emphatically, with a focus on growing in the US through our exclusive partnership with Nordstrom.

Shoes of Prey is a global, multi-channel retail brand that enables women to design their own shoes. Founded in 2009 by Jodie Fox, Mike Knapp (ex-Google) and Michael Fox (ex-Google), the idea for Shoes of Prey was born out of a problem that Jodie was solving for herself: I can’t find exactly what I want. We’re now on a mission to revolutionize retail. Our goal is to be the world’s most customer-centric fashion brand by giving customers exactly what they want.

Shoes of Prey has grown rapidly over 5 years and has won a number of awards including Online Retailer of the Year and Store Design of the Year at the World Retail Awards in Paris 2013. We’ve secured a lot of incredible press over the years including Good Morning America, Vogue, Women’s Wear Daily, Wall Street Journal and many, many more.

We have a strong partnership with Nordstrom, which includes 5 shop-in-shops within top tier Nordstrom stores around the country. Nordstrom has recently invested in our business and we’re looking to expand with them late 2016 and beyond.

We’ve also just raised a $15.5m round of funding from Nordstrom, Greycroft Partners and BlueSky Ventures to support our planned growth in the US market and increase the capacity of our factory in China.

About the role - VP Marketing

We’re seeking a full-time VP Marketing to be based in our Santa Monica office. You will be tasked to shape our brand and develop a marketing program to grow revenue with a focus on leveraging our Nordstrom partnership. It’s a unique opportunity to create a new fashion brand, and one that allows the customer to have a say in the product design.

The type of person we’re looking for

  • You’re engaged by Shoes of Prey and passionate about our mission to manufacture shoes on demand and deliver customers exactly what they want.
  • You have highly relevant experience developing and building a strong fashion brand and you’re able to take a branding strategy and execute it across the business.
  • You have experience developing pricing strategies for fashion brands.
  • You have experience developing promotional strategies for fashion brands.
  • You have experience engaging and working with influencers to help build brand awareness and drive sales.
  • Not only are you strong on the branding/creative aspects of marketing, but you’re very comfortable digging into the numbers and taking a metrics driven approach to marketing.
  • You have experience managing a marketing team that works on areas including graphic design, copywriting, PR, performance and pay-per-click marketing. You’re comfortable coaching and mentoring team members who are specialists in all these areas.
  • Bonus points for having fashion and shoe product development and merchandising experience.

To be killing it in this role in 12 months...

  • You’ve lead our marketing team in refining our branding strategy and rolling it out across all our customer touch points.
  • You’ve developed and lead marketing campaigns to take our product to market driving significant revenue growth in 2017.
  • Using our LA base and our very unique product offering, you’ve engaged with relevant influencers to share our product with their audiences and to collaborate with us on capsule collections. You’ve done this in creative ways so the relationships are mutually beneficial and we aren’t executing a cookie cutter paid post approach
  • You’re managing and mentoring our marketing team. They describe you as the best manager/mentor they’ve had in their careers - you’re someone who inspires them and helps them develop and grow.
  • You’re a great partner across the business. Our retail, manufacturing, merchandising and engineering teams all agree that you help them achieve their business goals.

The role will report into Shoes of Prey’s CEO Michael Fox. The salary for the role will commensurate with your level of experience with stock options, health insurance, office perks and of course - shoes!
