Tom Hiddleston, a British actor who spent the last three-ish months visiting international tourist destinations with Taylor Swift, is turning the page on that summer fling with the help of the fashion industry. On Monday, Gucci announced that the "Thor" star will appear in its cruise 2017 tailoring campaign, wearing what is a far cry from the homemade "I Heart T.S." swim shirt he wore over the Fourth of July.
The casting choice makes perfect sense for Creative Director Alessandro Michele, a self-described Anglophile who set Gucci's broader cruise 2017 ads at a manor in rural England. Hiddleston, meanwhile, is so British that he's reportedly in the very public running to play the next James Bond.
Michele's go-to photographer Glen Luchford lensed the ads at American artist Tony Duquette's estate in Los Angeles "in an ornate room surrounded by heirlooms, paintings and curiosities." Hiddleston also poses with a group of shiny-haired Afghan hounds; Michele likes to involve live animals in his ads, from farm animals (cruise 2017) to peacocks (spring 2016).
Is Hiddleston using fashion to bury his high-profile relationship with a pop star, like Justin Bieber and Zayn Malik before him? He could be, but who cares when he wears a suit — in this case, a Gucci suit — that well? Just look at him.
