The Giorgio Armani dress that Emma Stone wore for the AFI Fest Centerpiece Gala's screening of her (and Ryan Gosling's!) new film "La La Land" in Los Angeles on Tuesday should not have worked. Its quirky, ruffled sleeve ridges made of silk jacquard were somehow reminiscent of the garnish you put around a turkey at Thanksgiving; ditto the tiny peplum of the same material that hit just at her hips. Put that on a mere mortal and it might look very, very dumb.
But, never fear! Stars are not just like us, and therefore Stone looked darn good. The sheer sleeves and dangerously high center slit kept an otherwise demure ensemble from being too bland, and the velvet is ever so on-trend this season. (Just ask Orlando Bloom.) Add to that her just-showered-looking up-do and makeup that emphasized her hauntingly light eyes, and you've got a stunna on your hands. Bet your Thanksgiving turkey garnish won't be able to top this.
