There is, to put it mildly, a lot of crazy shit currently happening in U.S. politics. Some factions of the Democratic Party are wondering if Bernie Sanders would have won — to the point that it's become something of a meme on the interwebz.
Well, after seeing the Balenciaga Fall 2017 menswear show, we think it's safe to add Demna Gvasalia to the list of Bernie Bros. The current master of working pop culture moments into his designs, Gvasalia threaded the graphic motifs of Sanders' campaign — white and red curved lines between "Balenciaga" and "2017" on a blue background — throughout the collection, appearing on T-shirts, bomber jackets, and a rather literal take on a blanket scarf.
The Bernie-inspired aesthetic also appeared in the form of nail art, carefully painted by Balenciaga favorite Mei Kawajiri. (The nail artist was also responsible for the blinged-out nail adornments on the label's spring 2017 women's runway.) For the men's show, Kawajiri, who is known for drawing inspiration from commercial logos for her designs, painted tiny re-creations of the Bernie-ized Balenciaga logo:
But back to the clothing: The quilt-scarf wasn't the only send-up in the collection fit for the slacker dudes in your life. (Don't believe us? Look at the ill-fitting suiting, the layers of flannels and hoodies, the dad sneakers.) Gvasalia also incorporated parent company Kering's logo into a hoodie.
All in all, these are items that are sure to be must-haves for the stylish men who are still feeling the Bern and won't stop telling you why — or just those who want to have a Gvasalia-approved street style moment.
