Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than five million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best.
Korean skin-care routines are often a study in excess, given that they usually involve around 10 or more steps and products. But that excess doesn't necessarily have to mandate an excessive amount of spending, as evidenced by beauty influencer Chriselle Lim's fully drugstore-based take on the ritual. In response to reader requests, Lim created a "Korean-inspired" method for cleansing, toning and moisturizing using mainstream drugstore brands like L'Oréal, Yes to, Aveeno and even Kleenex.
The process involves makeup removal, double-cleansing, toning, masking and moisturizing. "To be honest, I'm really familiar with Korean beauty products and luxury beauty products, and I know that there are amazing drugstore products out there, but I just wasn't familiar with them," she says in the video. "So I thought this was a great time for me to get familiar with them." And it seems to have paid off — Lim's skin is about as glowy as it gets.
