The big news out of Paris on Thursday came from Louis Vuitton, which officially unveiled its collaboration with Supreme on the fall 2017 men's runway. And needless to say, people are freaking the fuck out about it.
The partnership is objectively genius; for a certain generation of young men, the bright red Supreme box logo is just as iconic (if not more so) as the French house's signature "LV" monogram. Putting the two together all but guarantees a collection filled with cult status collectors' items — although Vuitton's luxury price point is a far cry from the accessible clothing and accessories the streetwear and skate brand generally has on offer. (This point led one Fashionista staffer to ask: "How many fuccbois are moving back in with their parents to afford this?")
As we mentioned previously, the Louis Vuitton x Supreme collection includes several styles of handbags — including bespoke trunks — as well as a co-branded version of the much-hyped, trunk-style iPhone cases that Nicolas Ghesquière debuted at the spring 2017 womenswear show in October. In addition, there is a wide variety of other "stuff:" baseball bats, hats, keychains, scarves, blankets, sunglasses and skateboard decks, for example. (Sadly, at press time, we cannot confirm whether the collection includes a brick.) According to Luke Leitch of Vogue.com, small leather goods will retail for between €200 and €300, while bags and backpacks will run between €1,500 and €3,000.
And chances are, in typical Supreme fashion, inventory will be scarce, leaving us to wonder: How many lives will be lost in the ruthless pursuit of an iPhone case or a box logo T-shirt? As Tyler so eloquently put it, "let's pour one out for the hypebeasts."
