Mansur Gavriel has spent the past four years building up a cult following among industry insiders and beyond, with mile-long wait-lists for its minimalist bags, celebrity-favorite mules and chic slides. Soon, fans of the label will have one more thing to stock in their closets: The brand has announced it will offer clothing starting this fall.
The ready-to-wear line will debut in-season at the brand's fall 2017 presentation in September, marking a shift to the "see-now, buy-now" model. "We want to create a full world for our consumers and are thrilled to grow our product offering to include ready-to-wear," designers Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel explain in a release. "Our decision to simultaneously switch to a consumer-focused calendar is also exciting. We're looking forward to offering our customers such immediacy."
The brand, which won the 2016 CFDA Award for "Accessories Designer of the Year," has expanded its team to accommodate the ready-to-wear business; Business of Fashion reports Mansur Gavriel hired designers for the first time at the end of last year.
We'll have to wait until September to find out what a full Mansur Gavriel clothing line will look like (though fans can look to one-off pieces created for past fashion week presentations for hints) and to see anything new from the brand, period. As part of the transition to the "see-now, buy-now" model, they will not debut a new collection at New York Fashion Week in February. But Mansur Gavriel isn't sitting fashion week out altogether: It's pop-up shop in Soho, for which it has extended its lease, will be turned into a special, immersive installation, open to the public starting Feb. 15.
