Valentino's Spring 2017 Couture Collection Is a Clean Slate

For his first solo couture outing at Valentino, Pierpaolo Piccioli went for understated rather than for broke. Previous collections from the brand have been known to feature plenty of pretty layered laces, ornate sequin work and conceptual graphics.

The spring haute couture collection went a different route. Dresses were fit for Roman or Greek goddesses, in flowy-but-shapeless silhouettes and muted colors. The details were still ornate, thanks to knife-pleating, tight braiding and floral appliqués, but beyond a flash of red or a smattering of ruffles (and one very bright-pink dress), the overall effect was subtle. 

Still, like all things Valentino, the looks were nothing if not elegant. See the complete collection below:
