Historically, I haven't been great at buying wardrobe staples. When I go shopping, my instinct is to find something funky I can build an entirely new outfit around, rather than something that will pair with items I already own. However, that aversion to buying basics doesn't signal an aversion to actually wearing them, as more than one former roommate whose basics I borrowed frequently could attest. After all, you can't really build a wearable wardrobe on statement pieces alone.
I've figured out that I can trick myself into buying necessary staples if I find ones I'm really stoked about, which is why I'm currently salivating over these simple Veja sneaks. The French label has long been one of my favorite ethical shoe brands; I love way it combines modern, sleek design with a hard-core commitment to transparency and sustainable sourcing. And given this minimalist pair's goes-with-everything color, they'd perfectly balance the louder pieces already living in my closet.
