I was an early adopter of the skinny jeans trend when they first started gaining popularity back in the mid-aughts, at least by my school's standards. Years later, it's hard to believe how long the silhouette has stuck around. Even though I wear my ripped boyfriend-fit jeans or straight-leg overalls more often these days, I still haven't completely purged my closet of skinnies — and I've never strayed far enough from my skinny-loving roots to embrace truly voluminous wide-legged pants.
But the time has come to broaden my horizons and my ankle hems, starting with these pants from Aoui. They've got the right balance of professional and funky vibes, so I can wear them with a button-up and heels when I want to look like a collected corporate gal or with a high-necked sports bra, leather bomber and white sneakers when I want to feel like a downtown cool kid. Plus, they're ethically manufactured in L.A. from deadstock fabric, which is never not going to be a priority to me. And now that I know what it feels like to be this unrestricted in pants? Well, let's just say it's going to be hard to get myself into anything figure-hugging ever again.
High waisted flare pant, $120, available at Aoui
