Area is an emerging fashion brand based on Canal Street in New York, currently a finalist in the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund competition. Area seeks extremely organized, self-motivated individuals to assist in all aspects of Design, Product Development and Production. We offer a fun, dynamic and challenging work environment with excellent growth potential.  

Open to discussing full or part time options. Internship is unpaid, and eligible for school credit.

Technical Design / Production Intern 

Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Assisting designers in research, sourcing, and development of seasonal inspiration, materials, and garments  
  • Organization, archiving, and inventorying, and updating of Design/Development assets/materials  
  • Create and maintain technical sketches for Development 
  • Assist in cut tickets/tech packs 
  • Spec sample garments 
  • Liase with factories regarding sample progress, material receipt, fit comments, etc
  • Quality control of all merchandise 

Our ideal candidate will have/be the following: 

  • Mastery of Photoshop and Illustrator 
  • Very strong understanding of garment construction, specs, and tech packs 
  • Extremely organized, and self-motivated individual with ability to multi-task 

E-Commerce Intern 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Coordinate with and work alongside web developer for site updates, maintenance, new content 
  • Execute strategies for growing e-commerce and online brand awareness  
  • Maintain the appearance and merchandising of the online store 
  • Acquire and build relationships with clients 

Ideal candidate is a student with some web development experience, who can work from anywhere, with a weekly check in at our studio on Canal Street. We are a small team so there is opportunity to get involved in and work across different areas of interest.  

Textile Development  

Responsibilities include: 

  • Assisting designers in research, sourcing, and development of seasonal inspiration, materials, and garments  
  • Organization, archiving, and inventorying, and updating of Design/Development assets/materials  
  • Working with the team to research, develop, and design textile concept for the season 
  • Helping to source fabrics and materials  

Ideal candidate will present with a strong portfolio of physical development samples
