On Friday morning, Calvin Klein quietly unveiled a new logo via Instagram.

In the post, the brand called the logo "a return to the spirit of the original," and indeed the sans serif typeface is reminiscent of the brand's old logo without feeling overly "vintage." It was designed in collaboration with English art director and graphic designer Peter Saville, who's best known for his work on album covers for Joy Division and New Order — two bands that Calvin Klein's Chief Creative Officer Raf Simons frequently sites as inspiration, particularly in collections for his eponymous menswear label.

Though the post didn't mention Simons explicitly, one can only assume that he had a hand in the redesign; after all, he was brought in to overhaul and streamline the company's overarching creative vision. The way the logo manages to update the old without completely throwing it out strikes a delicate balance — one that Simons will likely try to walk in his first offering for the brand, which will debut at NYFW this month.

"[It's] an acknowledgement of the founder and foundations of the fashion house," the brand claimed of the logo. Here's betting Raf's first Calvin Klein collection will be, too.
