CR Fashion Book celebrates its tenth issue this month with the release of two milestone covers — and two landmark cover stars, handpicked by Carine Roitfeld herself: Paris Jackson, 18-year-old daughter of music legend Michael Jackson, and hijabi model Halima Aden, who recently signed with IMG and walked the Yeezy Season 5 show during New York Fashion Week. The publication marks both Jackson and Aden's first-ever fashion covers, which were photographed by Mario Sorrenti.
Jackson has been diving into her celebrity status as of late. She first made waves in the fashion world with a front-row appearance — not-so coincidentally seated alongside Roitfeld — at the Givenchy men's show in Paris last month. At the Grammys, Jackson made a red carpet appearance in Balmain, and in January, she was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone, giving her first public, in-depth interview following the death of her father. For CR Fashion Book, Roitfeld dressed Jackson in Gucci and paired her with director Lee Daniels for an interview; this chat landed Jackson a guest-starring role in Daniels's television series "Star" on Fox.
Also styled by Roitfeld, Aden wears Louis Vuitton for her respective cover and is interviewed by Iman, a fellow Somali and one of Aden's inspirations. When asked by Iman about the support she's received so far as a hijabi model, Aden responded: "To me, it represents freedom of choice. A lot of people have the misconception that, as a Muslim woman, I am somehow against women wearing bikinis. No, I want women to feel comfortable and confident in whatever they wear."
In Issue 10, Roitfeld showcases Karlie Kloss, as well as Bella and Gigi Hadid in their own fashion editorials. The accompanying CR Men's Book stars Gucci Mane — also his first-ever fashion cover, photographed by Terry Richardson — and the rapper is interviewed by the very-much-in-fashion Marilyn Manson.
