Fendi Looked to a New Decade of Italian Film Stars for Fall
For fall, Fendi was all about a cinema heroine wandering the streets of Rome. Karl Lagerfeld has been here before: His 2016 Metiers d'Art collection at Chanel was inspired by the classic Italian movie stars of the '50s and '60s.
But here, the decades shifted. This girl was all about the late '70s and early '80s, with her widened shoulders and her midi-length skirts. Lagerfeld stuck with a color palette of tans, blacks and brick reds, with the occasional deep teal blue. The blouses were loose with oversize collars, a nod to the power dressing of the era. Every look was accessorized with hoop earrings and thigh-high boots, and laser cutouts kept things feeling sexy rather than costumey.
Of course, this being Fendi, there was fur too — but, if it's any consolation to the protesters outside, it was relatively light this time around, relegated mostly to details.
