The Insta-bait Olympics, also known as New York Fashion Week, is now comfortably seven days in the past, but insights about the impressions it made on social media are starting to roll in. While some of the findings are relatively surprising — Raf Simons's debut at Calvin Klein got the most play on Instagram Stories, for instance — others are decidedly not.
In news that should shock no one, the Instagirls — namely Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Hailey Baldwin — got way more Insta-famous over the course of NYFW. Not only did Jenner rack up more than 588,000 new followers (that's over half a million, folks), her Instagram post from the Alexander Wang show featuring A$AP Ferg and Bella Hadid was the most popular model photo of the week, with more than 2 million likes.
Gigi Hadid came in a close second, amassing more than 520,000 new followers, with her little sister, Bella — who walked for the likes of Prabal Gurung, Brandon Maxwell and Oscar de la Renta — gaining over 264,000 followers on Instagram. Fellow celebrity offspring Baldwin rounds out the list, with over 126,000 new followers to her name. Looks like this bubble isn't bursting anytime soon, and these ladies will likely have even more brands knocking on their doors asking them to become ambassadors. (Are there any brands left that haven't?)
As for the designers, Tommy Hilfiger — who pulled out all of the Insta-bait stops for his consumer-facing Tommyland spectacle in Venice Beach — can rest easy, because he clearly succeeded in his goal: His brand's Instagram account gained over 94,000 followers, which doesn't even take the seemingly infinite mentions and hashtagged posts from the show and #AirTommy plane that the models arrived in. Now whether this translated into actual, significant sales? That remains to be seen.
