If Janelle Monae's latest look — I'm sorry, lewk — is any indication of what to expect from the Oscars red carpet this weekend, then we're in for a real treat. On Wednesday night, the singer-slash-actress hosted an Los Angeles Confidential Magazine party that celebrated its Oscars issue, with Monae herself on the cover. (She also co-stars in the films "Moonlight" and "Hidden Figures," both of which are up for Academy Awards. No big deal.) For the special occasion, she wore an Antonio Marras "Taza" dress from the Italian designer's Spring 2017 collection. It's a mash-up gown of lace, animal prints and other indiscernible motifs that perfectly aligns with Monae's artistic spirit both on and off the red carpet, stage or big screen. (Again, no big deal.) She finished her look with a simple top knot and a bold red lip.
Monae is known for sticking to a very strong #aesthetic, consisting of a strict black-and-white color palette. Somehow, she always comes up with something creative and original — though we're not entirely surprised. This is, after all, a woman who can pull off wearing googly eyes in her hair.
See you on Sunday, Janelle! We can't wait.
