Lady Gaga's 2017 Super Bowl Halftime Show performance started just like you might've expected: atop a retractable roof and wearing a metallic Versace leotard. On Sunday, Gaga's close personal and working relationship with Donatella Versace came to a head with a bevy of custom-made, completely bedazzled leotards, as confirmed by Versace — who herself was in attendance — on Instagram.
The program began with a long-sleeved, opalescent purple one-piece worn with matching boots and fishnet tights, which were first put to work when Gaga trapezed into the NRG Stadium to open with "Poker Face," "Born This Way" and "Telephone."
For "Just Dance," she added a jazzy gold jacket with exaggerated spiked shoulders, later taking it off for an emotional, piano-laden version of "Million Reasons."
And then, the finale: For "Bad Romance," Gaga swapped a leotard for a two-piece crop top and brief set, the jeweled sleeves of which was constructed to look like a football player's shoulder pads.
There were no gimmicks, no Left Sharks — just Gaga's booming voice, killer choreography and a whole lot of Versace sparkle. (And yeah, no, Gaga's still not playing Versace in "American Crime Story." We're as bummed as you are.)
