How to Wear the Glossy Eye Makeup Trend IRL

Without getting your eyelashes stuck to your brow bone.

Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than five million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best.

Glossy eye makeup has been trending over the past few seasons, but there's one issue: It's not exactly practical for real-life wear. That's something beauty blogger Marianna Hewitt struggled with herself. "Every time I would open or close my eyes, my eyelid was getting kind of stuck to my brow bone," she says the beginning of her video about how to try the trend IRL. "I hated that it felt like a really heavy gloss on my eye." So, inspired by fellow beauty influencer Teni Panosian, Hewitt decided to swap out the product she had been using to create the glossy sheen in the past for a different one.

According to both Hewitt and Panosian, the secret to a non-sticky, goopy glossy eye isn't an eye product at all, but a lip one: Kopari Lip Love lip gloss, which Hewitt describes as "nice and glossy without being sticky," to be exact. (I've tried it out for myself and can attest that that's an apt description.)

Hewitt's technique involves layering the slick balm over already glow-y eye shadow for a super-pretty — yet still subdued and practical — result. Watch the full video below:
