Pat McGrath Is Launching The Ultimate Smoky Eye Kit

This look is out of this world.

Makeup artist-slash-cult leader to beauty obsessives everywhere Pat McGrath is launching a whole batch of new products, and trust me, you're going to want to sit down for this. Next up from Pat McGrath Labs is Dark Star 006, aka the smoky eye kit to put all others to shame. It seems Mother McGrath has been channeling the same "anywhere but planet earth" theme Karl Lagerfeld and the entire Fashionista editorial team has been feelin' lately, because her latest makeup launch is inspired by — you guessed it! — space.

The Dark Star 006 line comprises three different eye kits. Two are seven-piece sets that include either the UltraSuede Brown pigment or UltraViolet Blue pigment (both shimmery, intensely pigmented powders), along with Mercury pigment (a brilliant pewter), Astral White pigment (a glimmery, holographic white), Dark Matter pigment (matte black with a hint of glitter), Cyber Clear eye gloss (a not-at-all sticky balm that's both shiny and sparkle-flecked), Black SmudgeLiner eye kohl (a matte black crayon) and blender brush. A Dark Matter set, which includes just the black products (SmudgeLiner, Dark Matter pigment and blender brush) will also be available on a limited edition basis, like all of McGrath's products.

"It is a really smoky eye with a difference," says McGrath, emphasizing that each product can be manipulated (applied wet or dry, with a brush or your fingers) and layered to create a slew of different textures and finishes. "You can really transform it and wear at different levels. Even the most natural level looks incredible, just a tiny bit of brown shadow," she says.

The products made multiple appearances backstage at the Fall 2017 shows. "We used it at Versace, the blue at Anna Sui, black at Prada, Valentino, Marni — there were a lot of black accents, but it was a lot of fun," says McGrath.

At a launch event for the new products on Tuesday morning, McGrath got her hands dirty by swatching out the pigments on a volunteer's forearm (shown above) and then on models to demonstrate the versatility of the shades. "Tell me that is not outer space!" she exclaimed to the beauty editors present.
