Apparently Demna Gvasalia's Puffer Jackets Weren't Big Enough for Rick Owens

Sleeping bags, but make it fashion.

What is Rick Owens trying to tell us about puffer jackets? The Paris-based designer has never been one to design with subtlety — previous collections have memorably included visible dongs, human backbacks and hairball helmets — and his Fall 2017 collection, shown in Paris on Thursday, should be no different. Owens seemed to have worked mainly in Marmot sleeping bags for this latest statement, which sure as hell looked like a flaming hot take (literally — those coats are cozy!) on Demna Gvasalia's staple garment at Vetements and Balenciaga. It's as if, with Owens's full-body puffer sheaths, we've just witnessed the upgrade button meme come to life. "You want puffy?" we imagine him whispering in the face of a slideshow of Balenciaga's Fall 2016 collection. "I'll give you puffy."

But who knows, right?
