Though we wrapped up fashion month with plenty of street style coverage (see our favorite looks from New York, London, Milan and Paris), we journeyed to Moscow for more outfit inspiration during the 34th season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia (#MBFWRussia), which just wrapped up in the nation's capital on Friday. With Eastern European designers like Demna Gvasalia and Gosha Rubchinskiy leading the cool-kid pack in the industry, we weren't too surprised to see the Russian city's fashion flock dressed in super stylish ensembles as well, from streetwear-heavy threads to high-luxe, Instagram-ready looks.
Read on to learn about the street style tips we learned from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia.
Put a Belt on It
This was a common trend among showgoers in Moscow, possibly because it's so simple and very cool. Here's how to do it: Take a belt — any belt — and wear it over your outfit. No, not through the loops of your jeans or jacket, your entire outfit. We spotted belts of all styles placed over coats, jackets and suits throughout the week.
Always Add Fishnets
If you haven't given fishnets a try by now, you probably should. (We've got some more helpful tips on how right here.) The accessory has been taking over every fashion person's wardrobe, so take advantage of it while you still can.
Wear Your Jacket Wrong
At Paris Fashion Week, everyone wore their coats or jackets the wrong way, and it seems to have infiltrated the Moscow street style set. In case you need some more inspiration, Russian model Sasha Panika has her own head-scratching take on outerwear.
Think Pink Is the New Black
If our 61 reasons why you will probably, definitely wear pink this spring hasn't convinced you yet, here's another one straight from Russia: Swap your black moto jacket with one in Tumblr pink for an instant pop of (on-trend) color.
Polish Athleisure With Something Tailored
Think your athleisure outfit makes you look a little lazy? Polish it up with something sharp, like a tailored coat. Your boss won't even notice.
Keep It Simple With a Suit
Pantsuits are already everywhere, and by next fall, they'll still be around. So if the thought of wearing one sounds intimidating, here's an easy rule of thumb: Keep the rest of your look simple, such as pairing it with a T-shirt and flats.
Get Weird With Sunglasses
Ditch your plain ol' aviators, wayfarers and round-rimmed sunnies with something more fashion-forward, like a boxy cat-eye frame with mirrored lenses. The weirder, the better.
Show Off Your Underwear
We recently saw Supreme peek-a-boo briefs on Cara Delevingne when she attended Chanel's Fall 2017 runway show — and we can attribute this look all the way to Aaliyah when she showed off a hint of Tommy Hilfiger logo boxers. Now that it's been passed onto street style stars in Moscow, we have a feeling we'll be seeing more underpants on display in the future.
Personalize Anything, Everything
The DIY approach towards personalization has been going on for quite some time, and it was in full effect during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia. We saw outerwear peppered with pins and patches, as well as handbags adorned with stickers and customized with keychains.
Layer Up Your Dress
Showgoers at London Fashion Week already proved that you can layer a dress over anything — especially jeans — but Moscow's crowd took the style tip a step further by pairing it with a statement blouse, breathing new life into that dress you never thought you'd wear again.
Coordinate Your Colors
Another street style trend that's trickled down from Fashion Month is color-blocking. Moscow's showgoers experimented with their outfits' color palette, particularly in subtle shades of nude, as opposed to the bold primary hues we spotted in Paris.
