The year is 1994. Tonya Harding attacked Nancy Kerrigan. "Friends" premiered. Madonna said "fuck" on the "Late Show with David Letterman" 14 times. Amazon joined the internet. And — of course — Harry Styles was born, and so too was his destiny to champion glitter-coated footwear. What a time

To be fair, Styles ("with a heart of gold and boots to match," as the kids say on Tumblr) has effectively championed a number of different fashion trends in his 23 short years, including (but not limited to) Hawaiian shirts, printed suits, black nail polish and man buns (and, debatably, the very act of having long hair?). But it's those very sparkly glitter boots — which, to our knowledge, first made an appearance on "Saturday Night Live" in Dec. 2013 — that left a lasting impact on designers this season.

Glitter boots appeared six separate times on the Fall 2017 runways throughout New York, Milan and Paris, and that's not including their spot in Marc Jacobs's recent Pre-Fall (or Resort) 2017 collection. They came in all colors, heel heights, boot lengths and silhouettes: Some were slouchy and '80s-infused — very Sloane Peterson — (Isabel Marant; Saint Laurent), while others came with patent leather cap-toes (Chanel) or dainty bow detailing (Marco de Vincenzo).

If you've seen "The Devil Wears Prada" (which, c'mon), you literally know how this movie ends: Our sparkly friends are going to filter down through high-end retailers with lightning speed before trickling on into the fast fashion circuit. In the coming seasons, they're going to become more available than ever, and that's a good thing: If you're going to look me dead in the eye and say you're not inclined to leave a physical trail of glitter in your wake, what are you even doing on this website?

Harry Styles, behold your impact at work.
