Victoria's Secret is planning to present its highly produced — and very sparkly — annual fashion show in Shanghai this year, reports WWD. The global lingerie brand has steadily been expanding its presence in mainland China since 2015, with 26 store locations that only offered beauty and accessories; the Victoria's Secret Angels are currently on a tour of China to open its first full-assortment stores, starting in Shanghai on Wednesday before heading on to the western city of Chengdu.

During the 2016 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Paris, Chinese consumers were not pleased with a particular segment of the runway show, which presented (non-Chinese) models dressed in costumes that referenced Chinese culture, such as Elsa Hosk in a dragon wrap. The styles received criticism because Chinese fashion is generally known for its more covered aesthetic and the references erred on the side of appropriation. Here's hoping this won't happen again in Shanghai this year.

We've reached out to a representative at Victoria's Secret for more information and will update this news once we learn more.
