The Biggest Trends From the Fall 2017 Runways
Fashion month has come and gone, and we're happy to hang our hats until next season. But before all the fashion people go on vacation, it's time to take a look at what trends designers had in store for Fall 2017.
The '70s and '90s have been everywhere for the last few seasons, so it's almost inevitable that the '80s are fighting their way back into dominance; come September, expect to be drowning in volume. On that note, designers took a note out of the George Costanza handbook and draped just about everything in velvet; the luxurious fabric was all over the place.

The '80s

Think oversize blazers, shoulder pads and voluminous everything. Luckily, this '80s trend that swept Fall 2017 is less about the outrageous neon colors and more about something a little more palatable.
Velvet

This sumptuous fabric was the hit of the season and showed up on more runways than it didn't. We especially loved the jewel-toned options.
Statement Sleeves

Everyone and their sister (collection) was playing with voluminous sleeves for Fall 2017. This seems like the logical place to go from after a multi-season obsession with the shoulder.
Protest

Designers used their clothing (most often, slogan tees) to do the political speaking for them, sometimes specific, sometimes abstract.
Silver

We noticed pops of silver in Paris (and on the streets of Paris) this past week, but allover silver looks proved even more popular for Fall 2017.

Power Suits

Shearling

In terms of outerwear, look forward to getting cozy with shearling. The plush wool came in plenty of shapes, sizes and textures.
Puffers

The second outerwear trend to watch for is the puffer coat. The most exciting thing about this one, just like shearling, is to expect no shortage of variety; classic black won't be your only option.
Track Pants
The real excitement for the laissez-faire consumer about the upcoming track pants trend is not simply that the casual pant is in for Fall 2017, but that they can be worn day or night. Enjoy!

Plaids
