Olivier Rousteing presented his Fall 2017 collection for Balmain on Thursday in Paris, and as we here in New York followed along via livestream, we had some difficulties nailing down just one overriding influence. But we tried — oh, did we try — and have a lengthy Slack conversation to submit as evidence upon request. By the runway show's end, the most succinct phrasing we could come up with was "'80s Metal Groupie: Jungle Edition," which are five words I honestly never thought I'd see paired together.

Thematic issues aside, we were able to take comfort in the following fact: Zayn Malik was there, and he looked good as hell. Perched in the front row to support girlfriend Gigi Hadid, Malik wore a shearling-lined camo-print jacket, black pants and clompy black work boots — nothing too snazzy, but everything looked great. There was a nose ring involved, too. (Is it new? Z-Squad, come through!)

And what about his new hair? Before I go another further, feast your eyes:

It's long and floppy up on top, shaved on the bottom and is precisely what would happen if Danny Zuko's swoopy quiff and your standard emo-kid haircut had a hair baby. Meanwhile, T's Alexander Fury described it as resembling a "Human League" style; subsequent Google searches confirmed that is, indeed, an accurate comparison.

Here's hoping that Malik and his hair show up in future front rows later this week.
