This Asymmetrical Button-Up Is What Whitney's Adulting Wardrobe Dreams Are Made Of
As a college art major who was heavily involved in theater, I pretty much had license to be as kooky as I wanted with my wardrobe for the majority of my undergraduate career. But the environment of the small magazine I started working at just before graduation was much more corporate, and trying to balance my off-beat inclinations with my desire to look like a respectable adult was tricky.
In some ways, it's a line that I'm still trying to walk, even now that I work in a decidedly unstuffy setting. (Forgive me, but I'd rather wear a dress than Vetements sweatpants most days). This artisan-made shirt from ethical company Behno is the kind of piece that perfectly combines my instinct towards fun without forgoing professionalism. The crisp white and contrasting black buttons feel grounded and mature, but the asymmetrical hem that looks just wrong enough to feel right keeps things from getting boring. Paired with wide-leg pants and colorful shoes, this could quickly become the cornerstone of my go-to workweek outfit.
