Last week, I frantically scoured the internet for a new swimsuit, as my insane schedule lately caused me to all but forget about a quick trip to Miami I'm taking next Thursday. My aforementioned schedule has also resulted in my workout routine falling by the wayside, so I limited my search to one-pieces with relatively full coverage — a style that, if you follow the legions of Instababes on social media, you know is seemingly in short supply these days. However, the lovely beachwear edit on Matchesfashion came to my rescue, and introduced me to what may be my new favorite swim brand of all time.
Australian label Matteu was founded by sisters Ilona Hamer and Peta Heinsen (the former started her career as a fashion editor at Vogue Australia) in 2012, who set out to make minimal, classic suits with a sharp focus on fit. The line includes easily mixed separates like triangle tops, high-waisted bottoms, low-cut briefs and sporty maillots with a wide range of coverage options, but the style that immediately caught my eye was this chic one-piece with simple straps and a square neckline. Talk about timeless!
Matteu suits claim to accommodate women of all bust sizes, and my 34D-wearing self can attest that this is (probably) the truth. When the suit arrived at my door, I was shocked by how well it fit — I took my measurements before placing the order — and how flattering the shape was. Considering that white is famously unforgiving, the snug, textured material almost feels like Spanx and offers an impossibly smooth silhouette. I plan to lounge around the pool in this during my vacation, but it could easily double as a bodysuit underneath denim shorts or a maxi skirt throughout the summer.
Unfortunately, I was a bit late to discover the magic of this suit, as every other color option is currently sold out in most sizes. As soon as I receive email notification that this is no longer the case, you can trust that I'll scoop it up in as many shades as I can — and I highly recommend that you try one out for yourself. If the confidence I felt in my apartment is any indication, it's worth every penny.
Matteau "The Square" swimsuit, $280, available at Matchesfashion.
