It's upfront season, a.k.a. the time of year when TV networks host events and throw parties in New York to convince advertisers to buy commercial airtime. It's also the time of year when all of your favorite TV stars come out to play — and dress to impress while keeping things relatively casual.

Tuesday's ABC upfront and Wednesday's Turner upfront both saw just that, with stars wearing their best eye-catching but not-too-formal looks. Bright colors were the name of the game for stars like Tracee Ellis Ross, who wore Ryan Roche at ABC, Dakota Fanning, who donned a hot-pink Proenza Schouler number at Turner to promote her upcoming show "The Alienist," and Kerry Washington, who wore red-and-pink Fausto Puglisi at ABC.

There were a few notable exceptions who used something other than bright color to make a statement. Alia Shawkat, of "Arrested Development" and "Search Party" fame, looked lovely in a demure floral dress with a square neckline, while "Hamilton" and "The Get Down" star Daveed Diggs let funky patterns, rather than bold hues, set his navy suited look apart.
