Statement earrings have been ubiquitous of late. Some postulate that, in a selfie culture, earrings are the most surefire way to give an outfit visual impact that won't be cropped out of the frame (unlike shoes, which rarely make the cut). For me, my penchant for dramatic earrings started with shaving my head — unlike the curly, voluminous hair I had previously, my buzzcut actually made it possible to see earrings I wore, which used to always be hidden by my curls.
These horn earrings, which are an exclusive from artisan-sourced jewelry company Soko for ethical e-boutique Accompany, are next on my wish list. I like that the unique sculptural shape makes a statement, but still feels low-key enough for everyday wear. And the fact that Soko and Accompany have both built their business models on helping artisans in developing economies make a living doesn't hurt, either. Here's to accessories that make both an aesthetic and moral statement.
