I've discussed my borderline unhealthy obsession with striped clothing countless times over the four years I've worked at this website, and despite my personal growth in many other areas of my life, this is one problem that likely won't go away anytime soon. But, as I've told myself in several dressing rooms as a rationale, stripes are always a good investment because they'll never go out of style. Plus, you can dress them up or down with ease, and with the proper accessorizing, stripes can be an #aesthetic chameleon, allowing you to channel your preppy or hipster or "French Girl" side with equal effort.
So you can only imagine my inner dialogue when I saw this pink striped shirt on a mannequin at my local Madewell recently. Sadly they didn't have my size in stock, but it's been on my brain ever since. It's a basic, oversize cotton collared top — the ideal summer garment, in my opinion — and instead of tying it up in the front for a more cropped, fitted look, it ties in the back, meaning that I'd look just different enough from the legions of trend-following folks in the city this summer. Lastly, the rosy stripes are hands-down the biggest selling point. What's better than having your top match your glass of rosé? Nothing, that's what. Just ask Instagram.
Tie-back shirt in rose stripe, $69.50, available at Madewell.
