Gingham is about as all-American as two of my very favorite things — baseball and apple pie — and since we're already celebrating our nation's heritage all this week, I'm all about dressing the part. Now, if I'm looking to dress patriotically, you should know I'm not a big fan of the traditional red-white-and-blue scheme, largely because I don't look great in either red or blue. (Selfish of me, I know.) But I'm all in on gingham and like to wear it as much as possible on everything from swimsuits to sundresses through the month of July.
Here's a gingham top I love: Made by Rag & Bone, it's an easy, breezy halter in a wide-set print that makes me want to throw it on with some jorts and high-top Converse and call it an outfit — or, wear it with white wide-legged trousers and a nice sandal for something a bit more "presentable." It'll be a sure-fire hit for years — gingham doesn't age — and I'll be doing some soul-searching as to whether or not this is something I want to spend my money on. In the meantime, I'll be channeling its picnic-blanket pattern as best as I know how: by eating a bunch of pasta salad and drinking rosé out of a cooler. Business as usual.
Rag & Bone "Nevada" cropped gingham cotton-blend halterneck top, $245, available at Net-a-Porter.
