We have seen many, many iterations of the naked dress in recent years, which has so frequently been the go-to red carpet choice for stars like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian that it's no longer surprising when they show up in one. But Cara Delevingne proved last night at the "Valerian" premiere in Mexico City that the naked dress isn't ready to move into the category of old news just yet.
Delevingne wore an iteration of the naked dress by Atelier Versace, which departed from standard naked dress format (which has tended to be floor-length in the past) by being short, strapless and in possession of funky sculptural ridges just above the hips. Rather than the elaborate beading that has often characterized other dresses in the genre, Delevingne's featured a mesh-like network of shimmery buttons that looked like they could've been made of mother-of-pearl. Delevingne's close-cropped hair got in on the fun with a subtle pink tint that mirrored the tones in her dress. Consider this a tutorial on how to take a much-tried red-carpet trend and catapult it into the future.
