We have some exciting news about People's James Bond Idris Elba, but first, we regret to inform you that it's not that he's finally replaced Daniel Craig as Britain's finest martini-toting M6 agent. Rather, the announcement is something a bit more up our direct fashion alley — though, Bond is certainly known to be a very stylish man: Elba is officially the newest member of Gucci's expansive celebrity fan club. Congratulations to Alessandro Michele for the acquisition!
At the New York premiere of Elba's latest film, "The Dark Tower," Elba arrived in his Gucci finest, which, for this particular occasion, translated to a sharp white shirt with snake embroidery, a schoolboy-style blazer and cropped khakis, all of which he wore with the label's $750 "Brixton" bit loafers. On the topic of Elba's trousers, stylist Cheryl Conti worked her magic and made damn sure that the camel-colored pants — typically reserved for Boy Scouts and Allstate commercials — looked appropriate in a red carpet setting, which they did with that racing stripe along the side.
Matthew McConaughey, who too is in the movie, was also there. He wore aubergine. It was fine.
We hope this is just the beginning of a fruitful relationship between Elba and the Italian fashion house. He'd look absolutely stellar in head-to-toe florals. So would Bond. So would Elba as Bond. Am I making myself clear, Hollywood?
