I've always been a big fan of Maryam Nassir Zadeh's shoes. Her frequently imitated sandals and mules haven't evolved much over the years, which is a testament to their enduring chicness. When I recently found myself in possession of a Matchesfashion.com gift card (yes, I'm #blessed), I was thinking I'd use it on a pair of her classic, low-heel mule sandals, but instantly fell in love with something else. For fall, the brand debuted a simple, croc-effect leather Mary Jane flat.
Mary Janes, at least for me, bring about images of Sally Draper and Prince George, but these are decidedly non-dainty; they have more of a sophisticated, '90s cool-girl vibe with just a hint of youthfulness. They're also, arguably, kind of ugly in a way that makes me think they could end up becoming a trend akin to the glove shoe. As further evidence, Alexa Chung incorporated a fabric pair into her new line and Urban Outfitters is now selling several versions, but only time will tell.
Maryam Nassir Zadeh Thelma crocodile-effect leather flats, $426, available at Matchesfashion.com.
