I've always had a bit of an aversion to trends. Even though I can't help but take inspiration from what I see other people wearing, when I buy something, I want to make sure it's because I genuinely like it and not because it's a style that's having a moment. I also try to buy things I'll still like a year later. So when something is suddenly everywhere — crop tops, bucket bags and Stan Smiths being a few examples — I'm immediately reluctant to buy in. But sometimes, after a while, I start to think, "Hmm... I kinda want one of those anyway," or I'll see one particular version that I just need to have. Then I'm super late to the trend and feel silly.
Anyway! The latest example is bodysuits. Outside of the 10 years I did ballet, I've never purchased one or been interested in purchasing one. I started to come around to the idea when I saw very chic bicoastal Pilates guru Karen Lord wearing one that looked more "mature LA minimalist" and less "thotty teen." Then, as I came to accept Abercrombie & Fitch's dramatic aesthetic improvements, I saw one on the (former?) teen retailer's website and absolutely had to have it. The ribbing, straight neckline and tie shoulders are very much my vibe right now, and it's incredibly comfortable and has the all-important crotch snaps for bathroom ease.
The style is clearly very popular as it sold out once after I initially bought it and is on the verge of selling out again. And since it's a clear summer stye, it's now on clearance for... $8. For a no-brainer summer staple and the joy of telling people it's from Abercrombie when they inevitably compliment you on it, that's a steal.
Abercrombie & Fitch tie-shoulder bodysuit, $8 (from $24), available at Abercrombie & Fitch.
