At New York Fashion Week, the multitasking beauty product of choice was lipstick. Makeup artists put it on models' cheeks and eyes in addition to (duh) the lips. But the French version of multitasking, it appears, has a bit more bling. For the Spring 2018 Dries Van Noten show on Wednesday, both the hair and makeup teams created looks featuring dainty, orderly rows of ultra-glittery Swarovski crystals as the sole focal point. And they put those crystals just about everywhere.
Makeup artist Peter Philips left models' faces looking completely bare, and then he either rimmed the eyes with tiny crystal rhinestones along both the upper and lower lids (shown above) or attached a line of them along the lower lip (below).
Hairstylist Sam McKnight got in on the bedazzling as well. He created a "rhinestone hairline," placing the crystals along models' parts, which were made on a deep side angle before the hair was swept back into a low ponytail.
On the runway, these bejeweled embellishments were barely visible, except when the light caught them and gave off a reflective glimmer. Consider it a whole new take on highlighter.
