It's been seven months since we said goodbye to the 2017 awards season with one strange, final blunder. Did you enjoy your summer? Let's hope so, because the preamble to the 2018 red carpets kicked off on Sunday evening with the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards — and with them, a tease of awards shows soon to come.

Fortunately, the fashion at this year's Emmys was exceptional and an upgrade from the safeness of the Oscars' red carpet. A number of celebrities (including Tessa Thompson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Leslie Jones, Sarah Paulson, Anna Chlumsky and Laura Dern) opted for some semblance of metallics, glitter or sequins — which was great news for anyone with eyes or an appreciation for sparkly stuff. Others (Yara Shahidi, Millie Bobby Brown, Kiernan Shipka and Zoe Kravitz) looked ethereal in frothy gowns from the likes of Prada, Calvin Klein By Appointment, Miu Miu and Dior Haute Couture. And then there were the actresses like Nicole Kidman, Viola Davis and Shailene Woodley, who wore solid-colored garments that were anything but basic.

Rest assured, all your boyfriends looked great, too: Milo Ventimiglia, Riz Ahmed, Aziz Ansari and Dwyane Wade proved you still can't go wrong with a sleek tuxedo, while Donald Glover and Lakeith Stanfield brought some color and styling to the carpet. Meanwhile, the "Stranger Things" boys looked fantastic ahead of what is sure to be a delightful press tour for the show's forthcoming second season.
