The other day while visiting my family in my hometown of Chicago, I was wandering around Rush Street in an attempt to kill time before an appointment for which I was accidentally very early. I walked into Madewell — a favorite of mine, as likely evidenced throughout my previous Editors' Picks — and did what I almost never do: I bought something without knowing I was going to buy something.

I hear that's what one calls an "impulse buy," but I wouldn't know. I'm a really, really, really terrible shopper. I'm an obsessive over-thinker about just about everything, including my clothes, and really only scoop up an item after I've ruminated on it for several weeks or months or even years, at which point it's probably sold out and I'm left to dwell on my mistakes for the rest of time. It's a tendency that really isn't ideal, and I've spent the last few years actively trying to shed my compulsive ways.

But last week, I surprised myself when I almost head-on collided with this light, slightly sparkly sweater top (which was on sale!) and found myself purchasing it not three minutes later. As soon as I saw it, I knew immediately that I'd get a ton of use out of it. It's a pretty blush-nude and will serve as my go-to dressy replacement for the more casual tees I wear every day. Plus, I can think of no fewer than five outfits with which I'd wear it, so it won't be long before it pays for itself. Which is excellent news for me, the overthinker.
