Last night, "This Is Us" brought the Pearsons' tearjerking story back to screens across America, and it also brought the real-life family members to the red carpet in celebration of the show's second season. The matriarch of the family, played by Mandy Moore, arrived at the event in a jacquard orange and navy blue dress from Rosie Assoulin's fall 2017 collection. The color-blocked, ankle-grazing frock featured an intriguing floral embellishment on one shoulder and was complimented with dark blue satin Sophia Webster stilettos and a structural box clutch in a matching shade. The actress stole the show from some of her co-stars, but mainly her on-screen hub Milo Ventimiglia (a difficult feat), who opted for a no-fuss fitted black T-shirt and jeans.
On "This Is Us," Moore gives constant lessons in maternal and spousal love, but on this red carpet she gave us a much-needed lesson in color blocking with spring's hue of choice: orange. We saw a bright, safety orange hue appear in many NYFW collections, and thankfully we have a few months to figure out how to wear the color without looking like a road work sign. If we take some cues from Moore and her expert team of stylists, we gather that the key to toning down an orange look, is pairing it with a more subtle, richer color, like navy. In addition, a simple silhouette gives orange an added dose of elegance — Rosie Assoulin's slim cut, spaghetti strap dress did just that. And when planning on incorporating the color into evening wear, look for fine fabrics and interesting details: it didn't hurt that Moore's orange-blue dress had some sort of cascading floral situation to give it that extra bit of fancy.
