On Sunday afternoon, Mansur Gavriel transformed its rosy Soho retail space into an intimate runway venue for its first-ever ready-to-wear show. After offering editors and buyers hints at what their clothing would look like at presentations past by dressing models in one-off pieces that complemented their accessories, designers Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel opted to present a "see now, buy now" Fall 2017 collection, filled with just the sort of minimal outerwear, knitwear, dresses and airy separates that you'd expect from the cult-favorite label.
Styled by Kate Young, the collection was a seamless extension of the brand's clean, colorful concept for which its shoes and handbags have become famous, thanks to a concentration on both saturated hues — sky blue, cherry red, bright yellow, bubblegum pink — and timeless neutrals, as well as fine materials like wool, cashmere and mohair. Their cozy sweaters came oversize, the trousers wide-legged and the dresses voluminous, making for an easy silhouette that recalls industry favorite luxury labels like The Row — but at a much more accessible price point.
In fact, the oversize wool coat that opened the show, which retails for $1,095, is already sold out of most sizes in rose pink on both Net-a-Porter and the brand's own site, proving what we already expected: that the outerwear might quickly become just as popular as the handbags. (We have a hunch the long puffer will be a big hit, as well.) For accessory enthusiasts, there are six new styles each of both shoes and bags for fall, including some menswear-inspired lace-up oxfords and tasseled loafers that appear to be as comfortable as they are chic.
The entire fall collection is available to shop now online, and will hit shelves at Mansur Gavriel's Wooster Street store on Monday.
