Fringe is just one of those trends (like military-inspired accoutrements or baguette-style bags) that cycle through the runways every few seasons. After a multi-year hiatus (they enjoyed a moment after Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" in 2013), the stuff is back — and this time, it's fancier than ever.

We first noticed it adorning several of Calvin Klein's dramatic, high-wattage gowns, the long strands paying more of an homage to the all-American cheerleader's pom-poms than Daisy Buchanan's party wares. Then, in Milan, it came in more traditional structures and patterns — which is to say, they looked more East Egg than Raf Simons — on a series of skirts and gowns at Marco de Vincenzo and Salvatore Ferragamo. Finally, Maria Grazia Chiuri gave it the denim treatment at Dior, creating pieces you can surely expect several Instagram stars to be sporting come springtime.
