When I read about Stephanie's beloved Yes to Tomatoes charcoal facial wipes, I immediately went out and bought some. I've always been a big fan of cleansing wipes for travel or when I'm too lazy to fully wash my face or as the first step in a double-washing routine, and these sounded much better and more effective than your average Neutrogenas. After I blew through my first pack, I went to Target in search of more. Sadly, they were out of stock but I did find a new product — essentially the same thing but in the form of micellar water — black micellar water. It looked too cool not to try.
To use it, you have to shake it up so the black stuff at the bottom mixes with the micellar water on top; then, like any micellar water you apply it to a cotton pad (the pump dispenser makes this super easy), wipe your face and that's it — no need to rinse.
There's something satisfying about seeing all the makeup and dirt on the cotton pad after and I love that it feels gentle like a typical micellar water, but has that detoxifying oomph of the charcoal. Sometimes I wash with another cleanser afterwards if I was wearing a lot of makeup or my skin feels especially dirty; other times it's enough on its own. I honestly feel that my skin has become more balanced and clear since I started using it. So while the packaging may not be the chicest (and the black water might look really weird), I highly recommend.
