On Sunday night, many of America's finest divas gathered in Los Angeles for the 45th annual American Music Awards. Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the event in a rotation of several over-the-top numbers, with one ruffled copper Ronald van der Kemp getup (above) garnering a lot of attention for its likeness to a Thanksgiving turkey. In addition, the "Blackish" star gave a sartorial tribute to her mother Diana Ross's decadent dressing in a white tuxedo that she wore over one of her mom's sequined blouses (pictured below) from a 1980s performance with Michael Jackson.
In addition to Ellis Ross's festive outfits, the red carpet was a glamorous affair, chock full of sequins and sparkly embellishments. With performances by Pink, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and the aforementioned icon Diana Ross, the awards show attendees pulled out all the show-stopping moves in glitter, layers of tulle, bold leather and slicked, wet-looking hair. Diana Ross, who was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and looked very proud of her daughter-turned-hostess, arrived in a gothic-inspired look that featured a tulle cape and a spider web-like headpiece.
The younger set of musical stars went a little less spooky and a lot more posh: A newly blonde Selena Gomez and Hailee Steinfeld wore interesting all-leather pieces, while Lady Gaga — who was unable to actually attend the awards — paid homage to the recently passed Azzedine Alaïa by posting a photo in a form-fitting little black dress by the designer against an AMA backdrop on her Instagram.
