Skin-care obsessed I may be, but I'm never really one to freak out over an eye cream. There are plenty out there that I find adequate, if not game-changing. And then there are also a whole lot of subpar formulas that pill up under concealer or irritate my sensitive eyes or are so rich that they cause milia (those tiny, super annoying, under-the-skin bumps).
Then, there's the packaging: So many eye creams come housed in jars that mandate dipping your finger in repeatedly — or using a tiny spatula that's nearly impossible to keep track of. Not only is that process un-hygienic, but the repeated exposure to air — jars tend to create a lot of exposed surface area each time you open them — can cause the ingredients to expire more rapidly. And in the case of retinol, once it expires, it becomes useless.
Once you know all of the above, it's easy to see what makes this lightweight eye serum stand out from the crowd. It packs a potent dose of skin-care super-ingredient retinol into a thin, gel-like formula that goes on smoothly and doesn't gunk up your undereyes. Plus, the slim tube is fitted with a ceramic applicator on the end that maximizes hygiene and minimizes air exposure. It's also cool to the touch, so it's soothing on puffy lids, but it doesn't pull or drag across delicate skin in the way that metal sometimes can. I've been using it for a few weeks now and have noticed a slightly improved appearance in the skin around my eyes — and absolutely zero of the negatives I associate with other eye creams I've tried in the past. In my book, that's a winner.
