Now just about two years in, velvet is still having something of a magical, industry-sweeping moment, the likes of which would make George Costanza very proud. We're big fans of the plush stuff here at Fashionista, often singing its praises, be it via Rachel Antonoff jumpsuits or floppy hair ribbons. It's especially apt this time of year when we're tasked with "looking festive," whatever that means, at a large array of holiday engagements. The good thing about velvet, though, is that it can work for pretty much every garment, for pretty much every occasion. TL;DR: Velvet! Good!
In semi-related news, long-time readers of my byline will know that I'm a big fan of overalls; I wear them pretty much every weekend in the spring and summer, and have been on the hunt of an appropriate cold-weather option for several years now. Enter, these skinny velvet pups from Madewell, which fulfill just about every overall-related fantasy I've had since I turned six.
As is customary with most velvet items, these are incredibly versatile, and though they're shown with a chambray shirt on the model, above, you could also wear them with a glittery, holiday-appropriate Going Out Top for night or a stripey sweater for day. I'd also be down to just lounge in them around my house on an indulgent Saturday night, as I'm tempted to do with all my favorite pieces of clothing. As one does.
Skinny overalls in velvet, $158, available at Madewell.
