It finally happened: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially announced their engagement! This is big news for fans of the Royal Family and for people hoping for Royal Wedding Watch 2.0.
Markle, who will become Her Royal Highness, Princess Henry of Wales (not Princess Meghan) appeared at an official photocall for the happy occasion on Monday, wearing a sleek, white coat by Canadian label Line. Paired over a green dress from P.A.R.O.S.H., Markle finished the look with nude heels (a Duchess of Cambridge style signature) from Aquazzura — currently on sale for $465 — and perfectly wavy hair. Her ring was reportedly designed by Prince Harry himself, featuring one stone from Botswana (where the couple spent a romantic holiday for Markle's 36th birthday, and where Prince Harry serves as the patron for Rhino Conservation Botswana) and two from his mother Diana's collection.
Kate Middleton wore a dress by Reiss, also in a white tone, for the Mario Testino-lensed photoshoot announcing her engagement to Prince William back in 2010. For the press conference, she chose a dress by Issa in a blue that matched the sapphire in her engagement ring, which had been Diana's; both dresses were so popular that they were re-released by the brands.
Will Markle have the same effect on sales as her future sister-in-law? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: She's off to a very chic start.
Update, 11/27/2017, 12:20 p.m.: Line, the brand behind the coat Meghan Markle wore for her engagement photocall, has confirmed that the coat is, in fact, theirs. In a statement, the brand's president and co-founder John Muscat says they will be re-naming the style after Markle in her honor.
"We are incredibly honored that Meghan chose to wear a Line coat to mark this very special occasion," the statement reads. "Meghan has an effortlessly chic sense of style, which we've always admired. We know this particular coat is one of her favourite pieces so we have officially decided to name it the 'Meghan.' We are elated for Meghan and wish her a lifetime of happiness with Prince Harry."
