I've never been a huge fan of quilted jackets. Even though I know that their warmth potential is higher than a lot of the jackets I tend to choose — which are usually made of materials like denim or leather — there's just something about puffy outerwear that has turned me off for a long time. It's taken awhile for me to come around re: oversize puffer jackets, too, despite their street style ubiquity in recent seasons. To this day, I have neither puffer nor quilted anything in my wardrobe.
But for this jacket from Rachel Comey, I'd be happy to change that. I came across it while researching winter coats and immediately fell in love. The odd lines and squiggly contours of the quilting feel unique, and the details — the curve of that bottom hem, those weird-as-hell-but-somehow-really-cool armpit holes (!) — are delightfully quirky. Still, the classic blue color and simple silhouette is timeless enough that I doubt it will feel dated anytime soon. Can't wait to freak my roommates out by putting on deodorant without removing my outerwear.
Bedroom jacket, $733, available at Rachel Comey.
