On Friday night, various Victoria's Secret fan accounts and Imonation took to social media to announce that Alessandra Ambrosio, one of the lingerie brand's most beloved Angels, will reportedly hang up her wings after the show in Shanghai.
Born in Brazil, Ambrosio has become synonymous with the lingerie brand and its annual spectacle. She walked in her first show in 2005, and one year later, Victoria's Secret picked her to serve as its first official Pink model for the brand's more playful, youth-inspired line. She's since worked her way to the top of the lace panty chain, having donned numerous crystal-encrusted ensembles for the company and becoming a celebrated favorite of the show. In 2011, Ambrosio made Angel history after strutting with a record-breaking 30-pound wings. The 36-year-old Angel vet has walked in Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows while pregnant and three months postpartum.
Ambrosio is among the bevy of other models who have already touched down in China for the Victoria's Secret 2017 runway. If it is her final show, we anticipate her final Victoria's Secret runway appearance to be both a celebration of her incredible work with the brand and a emotion-filled goodbye. This news comes as a bittersweet topping to an already-challenged event that's seen top models, pop icons and media people denied visas to attend the show.
The model and Victoria's Secret have not yet issued a formal statement regarding her retirement, but we will continue to update this post with further news.
UPDATE, Monday, Nov. 20, 8:34 a.m.: Ambrosio confirmed to Entertainment Tonight on Sunday that the 2017 event will, in fact, be her last Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. "The Brazilian native wants to spend more time on her successful swimsuit line, 'Ale by Alessandra,' and is also looking forward to spending more time on her acting career," reports ET. "Ambrosio told ET she expects that final walk to be very emotional, but knows that she and her fellow Angels — aka her 'family' — will stay close."
